Spiritus: Eco-guardian of Sanbang-ro 1

Today, Team Spiritus marked the first Geo Supporters volunteer activity of the summer vacation on July 20. Since it was our first meeting, there was a bit of tension at the beginning, but working toward the same goal quickly broke the tension and created a sense of teamwork. The weather was hot and humid, but walking together while picking up trash brought energy instead of exhaustion. We all could smell the salty wind at the beach.

During the volunteering activity, we collected the following:

  • General trash: 12 pieces
  • Plastic bottles: 18
  • Cans: 7
  • Plastic bags: 9

One of the most memorable moments was finding an old glass bottle. It’s faded color and worn surface felt like a small relic holding traces of the past. It reminded me that picking up trash is not only about cleaning the environment but also about tidying up pieces of someone’s memory. After the activity, the beach looked completely different, and the sweat we shed felt worthwhile.

What made this experience even more special was the laughter and small conversations we shared along the way. Some members even exchanged stories about their neighborhoods, and it felt like we were not only cleaning the beach but also learning more about each other. I realized that volunteering is just as much about people as it is about the environment. This first experience became a meaningful starting point for the rest of our journey.
