A Day of Action at GEC
On September 21st, under a clear sky and a gentle breeze, our team gathered for a large-scale cleanup at the Glocal Education City (GEC). It was the perfect day for outdoor work, and our goal was simple but ambitious: to make the spaces around the international schools cleaner, safer, and more welcoming for everyone who passes through them.
To cover more ground, we split into two groups. One team focused on the streets and narrow alleys around KIS, while the other worked in the parks and walking paths near NLCS. By dividing tasks strategically, we were able to work more efficiently and ensure that every part of the area received attention. As the cleanup progressed, we could see the difference with our own eyes — sidewalks looked brighter, benches were free of litter, and the paths felt more inviting.

What We Collected
By the end of the activity, we had filled three 20-liter trash bags with a wide range of waste, including:
- General waste: 15 pieces
- Plastic bottles: 12
- Cans: 8
- Paper cups: 10
Each bag represented more than just trash removed — it was proof of the impact that a few hours of teamwork and dedication can have. As we worked, we noticed how waste often accumulated in less obvious spots, like under benches, behind signposts, and in the corners of parking areas. Collecting it piece by piece gave us a clearer picture of how small, often overlooked items contribute to larger environmental problems.
Small Gestures, Big Meaning

What made the day particularly memorable was how others joined in, even briefly. Tourists walking by handed us bits of litter, asking us to “please put this in your bag.” These small interactions showed that people care about the environment and want to be part of protecting it. They reminded us that our efforts are not isolated — they inspire others to act, too.
Moments like these reaffirmed our belief that real change starts with awareness. When people see cleanup efforts in action, they think more carefully about their own habits. And when they participate, even in small ways, they become part of the solution.
Looking Ahead: Building on Momentum
After several hours of work, we stepped back to take in the view. The streets were noticeably cleaner, the parks looked more welcoming, and the air felt fresher. The three full bags of trash were a tangible reminder of how much we had accomplished in a single day.
More than that, the experience reinforced a powerful lesson: small, consistent actions matter. Each piece of trash removed, each conversation sparked, and each passerby inspired adds up to something bigger — a cleaner, more conscious community.
This cleanup was not the end but another step forward. Encouraged by the results and the support we received, our team is determined to continue these efforts. We plan to return to GEC and expand our cleanups to nearby areas, working to build a culture of shared responsibility and care for the environment. Together, we can keep making the spaces we live, learn, and walk through brighter and better — one piece of trash at a time.
