Volunteering at the Korean Wheelchair Basketball League in Suwon
Our Spiritus team recently had the privilege of volunteering at a basketball tournament hosted by the Korean Wheelchair Basketball League (KWBL) in Suwon. At first, our assigned tasks seemed simple — delivering score sheets, handing out drinks, and wiping the court to keep the playing surface clean and safe for the players’ wheelchairs. But as the day unfolded, we quickly realized how essential these small responsibilities were to the flow of the event.
Every score sheet delivered on time and every swift wipe of the floor played a part in keeping the games running smoothly and without delay. It was a reminder that even behind-the-scenes roles hold real importance. Supporting an event like this is not just about the visible tasks; it’s about contributing to an atmosphere where athletes can perform their best.

Lessons from the Court: Determination and Spirit
The highlight of the day was undoubtedly watching the athletes compete. Their skill, strength, and determination on the court were deeply inspiring. Players propelled themselves across the floor with impressive speed and precision, demonstrating remarkable control and teamwork. It reminded us of the true essence of sports: not just about winning, but about resilience, passion, and the relentless pursuit of improvement.
What struck us most was how each athlete pushed beyond physical limitations, showing no hesitation — only focus and commitment. Every pass, shot, and defensive play was a testament to their hard work and love for the game. Their energy radiated through the stadium, and we found ourselves cheering as passionately as any other fan.

An Inspiring Moment: Sripirom Pongsakorn and the Power of Support
One of the most moving parts of the day was watching Sripirom Pongsakorn, a dedicated player for the Jeju Wheelchair Basketball Team. His intensity and determination stood out, but what truly touched us was seeing his family — his wife and young son — cheering him on from the stands.
That scene captured something deeper than competition. It was about love, support, and the human spirit that drives people to keep going. It reminded us that sports are not only about individual achievement, but also about the connections that strengthen and sustain us along the way.
Beyond Volunteering: A Broader Perspective
By the end of the day, we understood that volunteering is more than just helping others — it’s also about expanding our own perspective. Supporting this event gave us the chance to see the world through a different lens, one filled with courage, perseverance, and community.
We left Suwon not only grateful for the opportunity to contribute but also inspired to continue seeking ways to serve and connect beyond our usual circles. It was a day that reminded us how even the smallest acts of support can help create spaces where determination thrives and the human spirit shines.
This experience deepened our respect for adaptive sports and the people who make them possible. And it strengthened our resolve to keep showing up — to cheer, to help, and to learn — wherever we can make a difference.
