Spiritus Stories: KWBL League Vol. 2 -2

Growing Together Through Volunteering at KWBL – Day 2 in Suwon

On the second day of our volunteer experience at the Korean Wheelchair Basketball League tournament in Suwon, the Spiritus team felt a noticeable shift. What had felt new and slightly overwhelming on the first day now felt natural and smooth. We moved with confidence, understanding the rhythm of the games and anticipating what needed to be done before anyone even asked. Score sheets were delivered swiftly, the drink station operated seamlessly, and our response time to wipe the court became almost instinctive. Seeing how much our teamwork improved in such a short time was incredibly rewarding.

A Vibrant Atmosphere and Small Yet Meaningful Contributions

The atmosphere inside the gym was electric. Spectators cheered with passion, creating a wave of energy that fueled the players on the court. It was in these moments that I realized how our behind-the-scenes tasks, though small, were helping keep that energy alive. A player’s grateful smile after receiving a bottle of water or a referee’s quick “thank you” when we delivered score sheets on time reminded us that even simple actions can make a big difference.

Volunteering isn’t about being in the spotlight. It’s about creating the conditions that allow others to shine. And on that day, we saw how our quiet support contributed to the excitement and smooth flow of the tournament.

Lessons from the Athletes: Resilience and Perspective

More than anything, Day 2 was a day of learning. Watching the athletes push themselves with such determination reminded me that challenges can become strengths with the right mindset. Their resilience, both physical and mental, inspired me to think about my own approach to challenges — whether in sports, academics, or daily life. It was a powerful lesson that consistency and perseverance often matter more than immediate results.

Each play, each moment on the court was proof that limitations can be overcome with hard work and courage. That perspective stayed with me long after the games ended.

Quiet Impact and Shared Fulfillment

As the second day came to a close, we felt a deep sense of fulfillment. Our work might not have been visible on the scoreboard, but it was woven into the fabric of the event — in the smooth transitions, the energized atmosphere, and the smiles of athletes and spectators alike.

This experience taught us that true impact doesn’t always come with fanfare. Sometimes, it’s found in the steady, behind-the-scenes support that allows something bigger to thrive. And for us, that realization made every task, no matter how small, deeply meaningful.
