Spiritus Stories: Caring for Elders in Jeju

Residence Volunteering Service with Jeju YeongLak Social Welfare Center

Our First Weekend Volunteer Experience: Building a Better Environment Together

After completing our Elder Care Training Program, Spiritus members began their first residential volunteer activity in collaboration with the Jeju YeongLak Social Welfare Center. Our mission for the day was simple yet deeply meaningful: to create a more comfortable, organized, and welcoming living environment for an elderly resident in need of support.

When we arrived, we were greeted with a warm smile that reminded us why we started this journey. The day unfolded naturally as members shared friendly conversations, offered emotional support, and prepared small snacks to enjoy together. We also worked as a team to clean and organize the living space, ensuring it felt fresh, cozy, and filled with positive energy. Every action, no matter how small, was guided by care and sincerity.

As we cleaned and talked, we realized that this experience was not just about providing physical help. It was about understanding another person’s life story, listening to their memories, and offering comfort through genuine human connection. By the end of the day, the room looked brighter, and so did the smiles of everyone present.

Continuing Our Commitment

This was only the beginning. Our team plans to continue this initiative every weekend, reaching more households and supporting elderly residents who may feel isolated or in need of company. Each visit will be an opportunity to learn, connect, and grow as individuals who value empathy and service.

Through consistent effort, Spiritus hopes to build a bridge between generations—creating a community where care and respect for the elderly become a shared value. We believe that even the smallest gestures of kindness can lead to lasting change.

Looking Ahead

As we move forward, Spiritus will continue to expand our volunteering activities and strengthen our collaboration with local welfare centers. We aim to not only improve living conditions but also to foster emotional well-being and social connection for the elderly community in Jeju.

This first experience was a meaningful reminder that caring for others is not a one-time act, but an ongoing journey of compassion and responsibility. We look forward to many more weekends filled with learning, laughter, and the joy of making a difference.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this rewarding journey together.
