A Nostalgic Weekend: Sharing Joy Through Traditional Games

This weekend, our Spiritus members spent a heartwarming day playing Yutnori, a traditional Korean folk game, with the elderly residents we support. What began as a simple game soon turned into a bridge between generations, connecting laughter, memories, and warmth.

As we gathered around the Yutnori board, the seniors shared stories from their younger days—about festivals, family gatherings, and the joy of community. Their smiles grew wider with each throw of the sticks, and the room was soon filled with cheerful laughter. Watching them enjoy the game reminded us how powerful even the simplest traditions can be in creating happiness and connection.

Moments like these reaffirm why we volunteer: not only to assist, but to share joy and restore the feeling of belonging.

Small Gifts, Lasting Warmth

To close the day, we presented each resident with a small potted plant—a symbol of growth, care, and companionship. Along with the plants, we also gifted personalized calendars to encourage a more active and organized daily routine. These gestures, though modest, carried heartfelt meaning. The residents received them with warm smiles and expressed their gratitude, reminding us that kindness often speaks loudest through small actions.

As we watched them place their new plants on their tables and mark their calendars with upcoming events, we felt a quiet sense of fulfillment. It was a gentle reminder that our presence, no matter how brief, could bring comfort and positivity into someone’s life.
