Protecting Nature, One Bag at a Time
A Mission by the Sea
Last weekend, our team gathered at the breathtaking Hyeopjae Beach on Jeju Island—a place known for its soft white sand, turquoise water, and stunning view of Biyangdo. Yet amid all the beauty, we noticed a different reality. Plastic bottles, snack wrappers, cigarette butts, and even abandoned fishing gear were scattered along the shore. We decided to dedicate our day to restoring the beach’s natural beauty for both the environment and the people who come here to make memories.

Protecting Nature for Everyone
We divided into small groups and began covering different areas of the beach. Under the bright summer sun, we worked with gloves, tongs, and biodegradable trash bags, each person focused yet smiling. As we cleaned, some tourists stopped to thank us, while others joined in. It was heartwarming to see how one simple action could inspire others to care for the environment.
Our team found litter buried deep in the sand and tangled fishing lines among the rocks those where hazards that can harm marine life. Clearing them away reminded us that protecting nature isn’t just about keeping a space beautiful. It’s about safeguarding life and ensuring that both locals and visitors can enjoy the coast safely and responsibly.
We also spoke with nearby shop owners who thanked us for our efforts. They mentioned how a clean beach helps attract more visitors, supporting their livelihoods. That conversation gave our work a deeper meaning and it wasn’t only about environmental stewardship, but also about community care and shared pride.
A Step Toward a Cleaner Tomorrow
By the end of the cleanup, several large bags of trash stood as a visible record of our work. We were tired, sunburned, but proud. Each piece of litter collected represented one small victory for the planet. The sight of a cleaner beach made every minute worth it.
Moving forward, our team plans to return regularly to Hyeopjae Beach and extend our efforts to other coastal areas across Jeju. We hope our example encourages others to take small, consistent actions that add up to meaningful change.

Reflections at Sunset
As the sun set over the ocean, we stood together, watching the waves roll gently onto the shore we had just cleaned. The beach looked brighter, quieter, and more peaceful. We realized that keeping it this way is not just an act of kindness, but a shared responsibility.
Every bottle removed, every piece of waste collected, and every person inspired brings us closer to a cleaner, more sustainable future. For Spiritus, it was more than a cleanup. It was a reminder of how small acts, done with care, can protect something as vast and precious as the sea.
