Acquiring a Scuba Diving License for Future Volunteer Work
This autumn, Spiritus members began a new chapter of service beneath the ocean’s surface. Three of our dedicated members have been working toward earning their official scuba diving licenses, preparing for future marine clean-up projects.
Each afternoon is filled with hours of practice, developing essential diving skills while studying marine safety, ocean ecosystems, and environmental conservation. The process requires patience and focus, as members learn both the physical and theoretical sides of underwater exploration.
Diving Toward a Greater Purpose
For Spiritus, these lessons are not just about personal achievement. They are part of a larger mission to protect and restore Jeju’s marine environment. Once certified, our members plan to take part in underwater clean-up dives to remove waste from the ocean floor and witness firsthand how pollution affects marine habitats.
This effort is more than an environmental task. It is an opportunity to build awareness, take responsibility, and contribute to preserving the beauty of our oceans for future generations. Every dive we take will bring us closer to understanding the impact of human activity on marine life and to finding ways to heal it.
Learning Beneath the Waves
Each training session challenges us to work together and remain calm in demanding situations. We are learning how to operate specialized diving equipment, communicate effectively underwater, and maintain safety while adapting to unpredictable conditions.
These experiences strengthen teamwork, discipline, and courage. They remind us that true environmental stewardship begins with education, preparation, and respect for nature’s balance.
Looking Ahead
As our training continues, we remain committed to deepening our knowledge and expanding our efforts for a healthier planet. The journey to becoming certified divers is only the beginning. Soon, we will take the next step by applying our skills in real underwater clean-up projects across Jeju’s coast.
Through this experience, Spiritus aims to lead by example—showing that caring for the environment starts with action, one dive at a time.
